  • PSO - Preparatory String Orchestra

    PSO - Preparatory String Orchestra

    Meets Thursday evenings from 6:30-8:00 PM.

    The Preparatory String Orchestra (PSO) is oriented toward students playing string instruments and who are just beginning their orchestral training. It is only open to string players in the 2nd grade and above. Price includes music fee. Auditions are required for all orchestras and ensembles before registration.

  • ISO - Intermediate String Orchestra

    ISO - Intermediate String Orchestra

    Meets Thursday evenings from 6:15-7:45 PM.

    The Intermediate String Orchestra (ISO) is oriented toward intermediate level students playing string instruments who have some orchestral training. It is only open to string players in the 6th - 9th grades. Price includes music fee. Auditions are required for all orchestras and ensembles before registration.

  • SYO - Symphonic Youth Orchestra

    SYO - Symphonic Youth Orchestra

    Meets Thursday evenings from 6:30-8:30 PM.

    The Symphonic Youth Orchestra (SYO) is open to string, woodwind, brass, and percussion players in the 9th grade and above. The SYO performs the full symphonic repertoire, and provides advanced orchestral experience for young musicians. Price includes music fee. Auditions are required for all orchestras and ensembles before registration.

    NJSYO Chamber Ensemble (Strings)

    Meets Sundays from 12 noon - 2:00 PM.

    The NJSYO Chamber Ensemble gives advanced string instrument students the unique experience of playing in a small group with more individual responsibility. Students learn to play together using cues and focused listening. Price includes music fee. Auditions are required for all orchestras and ensembles before registration.

  • Add-on Chamber Ensemble (Strings)

    Add-on Chamber Ensemble (Strings)

    Meets Sundays from 12 noon - 2:00 PM.

    This is only for students who have signed up for either ISO (8th grade and up) or SYO for the 2023-2024 season and also want to participate in an ensemble. The NJSYO Chamber Ensemble gives advanced string instrument students the unique experience of playing in a small group with more individual responsibility. Students learn to play together using cues and focused listening. Price includes music fee. Auditions are required for all orchestras and ensembles before registration.

I hereby make application for my child (children) to participate in the New Jersey State Youth Orchestra. We have read the NJSYO Parent/Student Handbook and understand that the fulfillment of the Orchestra's objectives requires the complete cooperation of each orchestra member and his/her parents. We accept the obligation of membership and understand that continued participation is contingent upon adherence to the standards and regulations described in the NJSYO handbook, including any and all changes made to the handbook during the season.
All students are expected to come to all rehearsals and all scheduled performances, and to arrive promptly. Absence from a scheduled concert performance due solely to a scheduling conflict with other activities is a serious violation of the Attendance Policy. If a student must miss a rehearsal, the Conductor must be notified in advance of the rehearsal if that is possible. More than two absences from rehearsal for a particular concert is a violation of the Attendance Policy. Late arrivals or early departures of 15 minutes or more to rehearsals will be recorded as absences. Violations of the Attendance Policy may result in a seating demotion for subsequent concert(s); not being allowed to perform in subsequent concert(s); not being allowed to progress to advanced seats, groups, sections or programs; or other actions at the discretion of the Conductor and the Board of Trustees.
I understand that the registration fee to join the NJSYO is fully Non-Refundable.
I give my permission for my child (children) to be photographed, video-taped, and recorded while participating in New Jersey State Youth Orchestra events, rehearsals, etc. I understand these materials may be used in newspapers, websites, or other publications to promote the NJSYO and its activities.
A) In the event of a medical emergency, I hereby authorize the New Jersey State Youth Orchestra to seek medical treatment of our child. During such an emergency, I expect the NJSYO and the appropriate medical personnel to attempt to contact me to discuss treatment.
B) : I hereby release and discharge the New Jersey State Youth Orchestra, its agents, employees, and officers/board members from all claims, demands, actions, judgments and executions which I may have or which my heirs, executors, administrators, or assigns may have or claim to have against NJSYO, its agents, employees, officers/board members, parent-volunteers, successors in interest, or assigns for all personal injuries, known or unknown, and from all known or unknown injuries to property, real or personal, caused by or arising out of participation in any NJSYO activities.
